People develop a passion for finding their relatives for many reasons; some have been separated from their siblings or parents against their will, while others are simply curious about their family roots. In my family, the first searches for relatives were initiated by Manea Judson in the 20th century. She was born in the city of Kirov in western Russia. In 1920, she migrated to England with her brother but then she lost contact with her relatives. It can be said that trying to find a missing family member is like looking for a needle in a haystack. In particular, when no information is available, searches can take many years.
Manea began looking for her brothers, sisters and other living relatives in 1977 during the Cold War era. Her main strategy involved sending photos to the Red Cross, requesting information about her missing family members. The Red Cross International Tracing Service has helped reconnect families all around the world who have been separated by migration, armed conflict, war or disaster. This service also helped Manea and she was able to restore her family ties and successfully maintain contact with her relatives.
Rudolph began his genealogical research in 1989. At that time, he was living in St. Petersburg, Russia. He knew that some of his relatives had moved to England in 1920, and he endeavoured to find them so he could discover more about his family background.
Rudolph searched the archives, requested information, studied biographical sketches, searched through the Red Cross, and hired translators to study information in foreign languages. For many years, he worked in different countries such as Russia, Germany, the USA and England.
For a long time, Rudolph gathered information piece by piece. His search took approximately 13 years but he came a long way in that time. He managed to find his living relatives in England, meet with them and then keep in touch. After his successful search, and having gained more experience, Rudolph began to assist other people in their search for family members so they could learn about their ancestors. He transformed his unique hobby into a professional service. With just a few details, he could help people locate unknown or missing relatives or family members after they had migrated to another country.
I have been engaged in genealogy for more than 15 years. I started with biographies of my relatives, using different genealogical sources. I would spend hours searching the internet and studying archives. I also visited libraries and read biographical reference books in an effort to learn more about my family. Then, I decided to open my own freelance professional genealogist practice.
I have conducted genealogical research in a number of countries and time periods while working in Russia, Ukraine, China and the USA. I offer a full range of services, from tracing family trees as far back as possible and looking for living relatives to interpreting DNA test results and studying people’s origins.
From generation to generation, my family passed down their experience and desire to look for relatives and help other people uncover their family background. My passion for genealogy began in 2008. Rudolph transferred his knowledge to me and inspired me to reveal not only my own history but also the history of those around me. Thanks to my curiosity, concentration and attention to detail, I continued to develop the so-called ‘family business’, improving my genealogical skills and helping other people. Today, my work is based on the experience of generations for over three decades.
Over the years, we have been able to trace our ancestors back several generations. We have created a genealogical tree of our family, comprising thousands of people. Thanks to our family’s experience, the knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation and our strong desire, we have managed to paint a vivid picture of our history.
